Project Description

VadiCare

Our Challenge

Parkinson’s disease is a progressive disorder of the nervous system that affects movement. A severe symptom associated with Parkinson’s disease is Freezing of Gait, the sudden loss of control over one’s feet and the inability to move forward despite having the intention to walk. Such episodes can last up to several minutes, causing not only frustration, anxiety and embarrassment for patients, but also greatly increasing their risk of physical injury due to falling.

Our Solution

A relief from freezing can be achieved by following external cues, such as a rhythmic tone. These cues help to restart movement after a freezing episode or even prevent freezing, if they are delivered right at the onset of the episode. Our product is a smart wearable band that detects the onset of freezing and delivers rhythmic cues to help with the prevention and overcoming of freezing. In addition, it provides long term monitoring of symptoms related to Parkinson’s disease, enabling medical doctors to evaluate and adjust therapy.

Our Pitch
